W.L. Wyllie R.AThe Eastbourne Framing Centre has recently purchased two intricate works by W.L. Wyllie.
Born in 1851, in London, Wyllie studied atthe Royal Academy Schools, where he won the Turner Medal. He worked for the White Star Line shipping co. and also served in the Royal Navy during WWI.
He painted seascapes portraying maritime subjects from fishing boats to destroyers.
His etchings and watercolours featuring life on the river Thames and the Medway gave him widespread recognition and in 1930 he completed a 42' panoramic painting of the Battle of Trafalgar.Wyllie dies in Hampshire in 1931.
